We stayed at Casinhas no Carolina, a guest house set within a Portuguese residential building dating from the mid-1930s. The architecture is typical of the period, and the original structure remains clearly present in the way the spaces are organised and in the proportions of the house.
The interiors reference traditional Portuguese decorative styles inspired by the 18th century, without excess or theatrical staging. The overall feeling is calm and coherent, allowing the house to keep its identity without trying to impress.
Fully renovated, Casinhas no Carolina operates as a guest house offering both private and shared accommodation, located in one of Porto’s most central areas.

Our Room
We stayed in the Large Double Room, a space organised into two separate areas. The entrance functions almost like a small antechamber, clearly separating arrival from the sleeping area. This layout immediately made the room feel more comfortable and private.
The walls are painted in a soft blue tone, which works well with the natural light coming through the windows. The room feels bright and easy to inhabit throughout the day, without unnecessary decoration.

The furniture follows a traditional style and is well integrated into the space. Everything feels functional, balanced and comfortable, without feeling staged or overly styled.
When we arrived, two pastéis de nata were waiting for us. A small gesture that made the arrival feel warm and considered.

Shared spaces and practical details
Beyond the rooms, the guest house features shared areas, including a lounge, a communal kitchen, and a dining space. These areas are practical and easy to use, contributing to a relaxed and informal rhythm throughout the house.

The guest house also offers 24-hour security and luggage storage, which we found particularly useful. Being able to leave our bags after check-out allowed us to continue our day comfortably before leaving.
These practical details make a real difference, especially for short stays or late departures.

Casinhas no Carolina feels grounded and straightforward. It’s a guest house that works well for a one or two night stay in Porto, offering comfort, history and a calm, well-kept environment in a central location.
